Dees Pecan Company has been family owned and operated since 1925. Dewitt and Myrtle
Dees opened their business in Grand Bay, Alabama, with a vision of providing their customers with top-quality pecans and excellent customer service. Starting as a small-town mom & pop store, they soon expanded their shipping department to serve all 50 states. Dewitt and Myrtle's warm, welcoming nature ensured they never met a stranger, building a loyal customer base that has spanned generations.

Our Story

Off-Season Beginnings

In the off-season, Dewitt and Myrtle supplemented their business with fresh produce and nursery stock, including local varieties of pecan trees. Their dedication and hard work laid a strong foundation for the company's future growth.

A Family Legacy

In the mid-1980s, Dewitt and Myrtle entrusted the business to their daughter Marylyn. Sadly, Dewitt passed away in January 1986, followed by Myrtle six months later. Marylyn and her husband, Leslie Hatchett, carried on the family legacy, running the business on a seasonal basis. Leslie planted, cultivated, and harvested the pecan crop while managing the wholesale operation. Marylyn ran the retail store, selling fresh pecans from October to January. When the pecans sold out, they closed until the next season. In the off-season, Leslie and his sons, Mark and Kent, farmed 2,000 acres of soybeans and corn and managed a large cattle operation year-round.

The Next Generation

In 2001, Marylyn and Leslie passed the business to their son Mark Hatchett. Mark and his wife Kim remodeled the store and expanded the product line to include pecan candies, pies, gourmet items, and their unique Southern Pecan Coffee. They continued the seasonal operation and introduced individual and corporate gift tins and gourmet gift baskets. In 2010, they launched the Dees Pecan Company website and decided to keep the store open year round.
